In 1992 through BUET- University of Alberta Linkage Project, the Gender Equality Policy (GEP) group was introduced in BUET. The GEP Group including Ar. Prof. Khaleda Rashid and Engr. Prof. Dr. Dil Afroza Begum worked 12 years to achieve gender balance in technical profession and education and formulated an Action Plan on “Overcoming Barriers in employment of women technical professionals of Bangladesh”. Materialization and for implementation of the Action Plan there was prerequisite to the formulation of an Association of Women Technical Professionals of Bangladesh. Before ended the project in December 2004 an Ad-hoc Committee was formed on November 25, 2004. Ar. Khaleda Rashid, professor BUET was the convener of that Ad-hoc committee. The Ad-hoc committee called a General Meeting and Launched an Association named Women Architects, Engineers, Planners Association (WAEPA), Bangladesh on July 28 2005. Subsequently a 21 members Executive Committee was formed.
